What is a Rubber Roof?
Rubber roofing is a different way of saying EPDM, ethylene propylene diene monomer (M-class) rubber. EPDM is a synthetic rubber.
When used on roofs, it’s sold in rolled up sheets or shingles. The sheets are laid down a roof and special adhesives attach the sheets. This industrial glue will last as long as the rubber roofing.
LONG LASTING
Asphalt shingles last 30 years without bad weather. Get a run of rough storms and the shingles take a beating. Rubber roofing can last 40 to 50 years.
EASY REPAIR
Because the rubber is flexible, some people may worry that temperature extremes can damage it. Not so. Today’s rubber roofing has been tested in desert and arctic conditions. It holds up.
Yes, rough storms can damage the roof, but it generally won’t be as bad as asphalt shingles. If something does need repair, it’s a pretty simple job but one that must be handled by a professional roofer.
FAST INSTALL
The first thing to do is remove the old shingles. They come off pretty quickly. Then we lay down a base sheet followed by the rubber roofing. When it comes to putting a rubber roof on a mobile home, the type of roof you have now determines how much preparation work we need to do.
COMMON MATERIAL
You’ve seen EPDM, but just didn’t know what it was. The same material that makes a rubber roof is used on your car. It’s the door, window and trunk seals. For roofing work, it’s formulated to be tougher, not like the foam seals you’re accustomed to seeing and feeling.
