More than likely you can tell it is summer without going outside.  The easiest way to determine it is the summer is by looking at the monthly energy bill. men hanging sheet rock

It is common for the home electricity bill to increase significantly each summer.  It makes sense – the home HVAC system often runs 24/7 to keep the home cool, and since the home HVAC is the largest appliance in the home, it represents the largest percentage of the home energy costs.

Drew’s Roofing and Home Repair feels your pain if you wince when you see the monthly energy bill.  We have one too after all.

There are some things that we can help you with if you are interested in lowering your home energy costs and lessening the strain on the home HVAC system.

Like always, please do not attempt these recommendations on your own.  Chances are you will do more harm than good.

  1. Check for cracks cracks and crevices – Small cracks at windows and doors may not seem significant, and they are not. However, several small cracks do add up.  Drew’s can check over doors and windows.  We will make recommendation on what to do from running a few beads of caulk, reseal or rehang.
  2. Full window replacement – Windows and their technology has grown leaps and bounds over the years. Some better windows have a thin layer of argon or krypton gas.  These gases have exceptional insulation capabilities.
  3. Check home insulation – The roof and space in the attic are the primary insulation for the home. Most have a layer of insulation lying on the floor of the attic.  Depending on how old your home is, it may be a good idea to have fresh insulation sprayed into the attic.

These suggestions are certainly not all-inclusive.  Drew’s recommends an appointment and visit.  This way we can do a complete inspection, make recommendations and possibly generate a quote on sight.

What may cost you in these repairs will be offset in your savings on the home energy bill.  Let us know if we can be of service to you with this or any home repairs you may have.

Stay cool this summer; keep hydrated and do not go outside unless you need to.
