Is It Time To Replace Your Roof? Read On To See.
There is very little more important for a home than a solid roof. Sadly, a roof is not designed to last forever, as 20 – 25 years is about all you will be able to get from a roof. Sometimes, a roof will need replacing before then. If you are not sure or have questions, be sure to contact us at Drew’s Roofing and Home Repair. We will help you determine if a new roof is in order.
Meanwhile, here are a few things you can look at to see if you are ready for a new roof.
- Curling shingles – Anytime you see the shingles curl, you can be sure leaks will start soon. Curling of any kind, edges, middle, etc., means five or less years remaining on your roof.
- Missing shingles – Do you see bare roof on the top? If so, it may be time to replace the roof or at the very least, some of the shingles. Be sure to let us know; matching shingles is very difficult, chiefly because of the mold that grows on shingles over time. Pay attention. Checkerboard roofing means you need to replace the entire roof.
- Sunlight inside the attic – This is a no-brainer. Holes with sunshine peeking through is a sure sign of replacement.
- Algae and mold – There is a common, harmless mold that grows on shingles, but it can be an eyesore. If you see the shingles are discolored, contact us. We need to be sure what you have growing on the roof is not dangerous.
Most importantly, do not try and make any roof repairs on your own. Regular readers of our blog know that we have the training, insurance and safety gear to protect ourselves. You, as a homeowner, may not have this necessary protection. Call Drew’s Roofing and Home Repair asap if you see any issues with your roof. Sometimes we can make replacements without needing a whole new roof.
